ISUZU D-MAX: WHY DIESEL REMAINS THE FOCUS FOR AUSTRALIA

Isuzu continues to focus on what Australian UTE owners need, with diesel power remaining at the heart of the D-MAX range.

The future of Utes is changing, with electric and hybrid vehicles becoming an increasingly common sight on Australian roads. However, for Isuzu UTE Australia, diesel remains the focus for the D-MAX, with the brand confirming that its all-electric D-MAX will not be coming to Australia at this time.

Why isn't the electric D-MAX coming to Australia?

According to recent industry reporting, Isuzu has decided not to export the battery-electric D-MAX to Australia for now. The decision reflects the brand's focus on vehicles that best suit current needs and demand in the local market.

Diesel-powered Utes continue to play an important role in Australia, particularly for drivers who rely on their vehicles for work, towing, touring and everyday driving.

For many owners, choosing a Ute is about finding the right balance of capability, practicality and running costs. These considerations remain central to Isuzu's approach to the Australian market.

A continued focus on diesel efficiency.

While a fully electric D-MAX isn't currently on the cards for Australia, Isuzu is continuing to look at ways to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.

One part of this approach is the more efficient 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, alongside the continued development of the wider MU-X range.

Isuzu says diesel fuel accounts for 84% of Australian light commercial vehicle sales year-to date, and the company will instead concentrate on its existing diesel-powered D-MAX range.

What does this mean for Australian Ute buyers?

For now, Australian buyers can continue to explore the diesel-powered Isuzu D-MAX range, with options designed to suit a variety of needs, from worksite duties to weekend adventures.

Although the automotive industry is moving towards more electrified vehicles, there isn't a single solution tat suits every driver. Isuzu's current direction reflects the importance of delivering practical vehicles that meet the needs of Australian customers today.

The decision means Australians will miss out on a D-MAX EV that has some surprisingly serious workhorse credentials. Already available in overseas markets such as the UK and Thailand, it features a 66.9kWh lithium-iron battery that feeds two electric motors for combined outputs of 140kW and 325Nm.
